Why handmade?
Buying handmade helps keep traditional artforms from being lost to time and offers a higher level of connection and customization. When you reach out to Journeal customer service, you are reaching out directly to the person who makes these books—me. I have a vested interest in ensuring that your journal not only meets your expectations but also stands the test of time. Unlike mass-producted alternatives, a handmade book comes with the care and attention of someone who truly wants it to last, because it's quality is a reflection of my craft.
Handmade books are bound differently because they're made to last. I use a combination of traditional and modern bookbinding techniques to create something that is designed to be both beautiful and durable, ready to be filled cover to cover, or just admired on a shelf (no judgement, we've all been there). Every material is chosen with care, from the cover board to the thread in the binding. Each journal is carefully folded, sewn, and bound by hand, ensuring a level of quality that has become rare in a world of mass production.
For me, bookbinding is an invitation to slow down and be intentional, and I like to think that sentiment carries over to you when your journal reaches your doorstep. The process is slow, intricate, and often tedious, so when you pick up one of my journals, you're holding hours of careful work and years of experience. Whether you're a writer, an artist, a scrapbooker, or someone who is just really passionate about to-do lists (like my husband), your book is made with you in mind, and in human hands from start to finish. The best quality control there is.
